The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) has urged the Queensland Productivity Commission (QPC) to address network pricing to lower small business energy bills. CCIQ has also joined together with the Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) and other consumer representative organisations in providing a joint submission on the draft QPC report on electricity pricing. The joint submission addressed issues affecting productivity in the energy supply chain including networks; generation; and retail. CCIQ separately submitted to the QPC addressing issues including network prices; ownership of the network assets; deregulation of the retail market; electricity retail competition in regional Queensland; and the solar bonus scheme costs.

4 March - Submission to Department of Immigration and Border Protection regarding Evidence-based Review of the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) (Download 527KB)

The 457 Income Threshold had risen at a much faster pace than average wage rates over the past few years meaning businesses had found it difficult to access migrants to fill their vacancies where a clear skills shortage existed.

The Straddie Chamber of Commerce and CCIQ support the primary objective of the Private Members Bill to extend the cessation date to 2024 and allow for rehabilitation of land in the region until the end of 2029. This objective rejects the State Government proposal to end sand mining activities in the North Stradbroke Island Region by 2019.
